National Songwriting Prize Winner 2012

Christine Deady's song Follow the Water has won the coveted Hennessy songwriting competition given in honour of Christie Hennessy by the Irish Music Rights Organisation.  Shortlisted from nearly 200 entries Christine's song, "Follow the Water" co-written with Enda Reilly, was one of ten original songs performed in front of a live audience and panel of judges on the 17th of November.

The judges included Radio Kerry’s Brian Hurley, Kieran Ruttledge of Tralee Chamber Alliance, Áine Murray of Kerry School of Music and Siamsa Tire and Keith Johnson of IMRO and the prize was awareded by Jimmy Deenihan TD, Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism.

Christine and Enda met on a weekend of songwriting in Carlingford where a number of writers got together, rented a house and shared songwriting ideas, tips and woes and so ‘Follow the water’ was born.

Already in her short career she has been shortlisted Most Promising New Act 2010 by the Meteor Awards, Shortlisted by Vodafone as one of Ireland's up and coming “Bright New Sounds”, and shortlisted in the Best Irish Female category for the Balcony TV awards, that’s a lot of shortlisting! Christine has spent the last number of years working on honing her craft as a songwriter and is currently in the midst of recording her debut album".  Hear the song here
